Transformative EMDR Therapy for Teens and Adults

Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy uses the same eye movements that happen naturally during sleep. While awake, we use these same eye movements to help your brain process negative memories. We take each memory in short segments – 15 seconds for example – and process the associated feelings. EMDR lets you access the innate capacity of your brain to process four types of information related to traumatic memories. By the end of treatment, many clients feel like their past doesn’t control them and they’re free to live on their own terms.

WHO IT’S FOR

EMDR Therapy is for those who want to take the pain out of old memories. This therapy helps us process memories in small chunks, so it’s not overwhelming, but very effective. EMDR is for anyone dealing with trauma, PTSD, anxiety, or depression

It’s also helpful for those who don’t want to talk about their experiences. In EMDR, talking about experiences is largely optional. Instead, your therapist will guide you using eye movements, alternating hand buzzers, or small electrical pulses (neurostimulation). Your therapist will guide you step by step, and you can share as much or as little as you’re comfortable sharing, even if that’s nothing at all.

  • Heal without talking about your experiences
  • Calm your nerves and feel relaxed and in control
  • Process painful memories even if they happened decades ago
  • Improve how you feel day to day by healing trauma

WHAT TO EXPECT

Our EMDR therapists will guide you gently through the EMDR process. Basically, they’ll guide you through a process called “bilateral stimulation,” which uses both halves of your brain to process traumatic memories. When it comes to trauma and PTSD, some memories are like a light switch that’s been left on. EMDR helps you go into that room and shut the light switch off, thereby removing the pain of that memory. Many clients feel more integrated and whole after sessions.

  • EMDR Therapy for Teens helps them overcome traumatic experiences like bullying and social rejection, among others. It’s a process, and each of our teen therapists are exceptional at relating to teens and guiding them effectively. We’ll help your teen feel comfortable and guide them toward feeling better.
    .
  • EMDR Therapy for Adults can help you heal from painful memories, even if they happened decades ago. Using gentle guidance and going at a comfortable pace, our therapists will help you stay grounded during the healing process. With us, you’ll have compassionate, expert guidance toward feeling whole again.

FAQ

Why is EMDR so powerful?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is powerful because it helps individuals process traumatic memories by stimulating both sides of the brain through guided eye movements or other methods.

This allows the brain to reprocess disturbing memories, reducing their emotional intensity and integrating them into a healthier narrative. EMDR's structured approach helps desensitize individuals to trauma while reinforcing positive beliefs, making it an effective treatment for trauma, PTSD, and other mental health conditions.

What happens during an EMDR session?

During an EMDR session, the therapist guides the client through recalling a distressing memory while simultaneously using guided eye movements or another method. Your therapist will help you identify a specific memory to target, including the associated negative thoughts and emotions.

As you focus on the memory, your therapist will guide you gently through the process. This helps your brain reprocess the memory, reducing its emotional intensity and allowing you to effortlessly form more adaptive beliefs about the experience. Sessions typically end with relaxation exercises to ensure you feel grounded.

Does EMDR help with this?

EMDR is most commonly used to help individuals with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), but it also aids in treating a variety of other mental health issues. These include anxiety, depression, phobias, panic disorders, and complicated grief.

EMDR can also address issues related to trauma, such as negative self-beliefs, emotional distress, and performance anxiety. It helps usreprocess painful memories, reducing our emotional impact and improving coping mechanisms.

How do we get started? Are you accepting new clients?

We’re currently accepting new clients and can help you get started with a complimentary in-person or virtual consultation. It’s 30 minutes and is done with our intake person or one of our licensed teen therapists. This is your chance to share whatever they’re comfortable sharing, ask questions, and see which of our therapists is a good fit for them. You can trust that all of our EMDR therapists are highly trained and experienced when it comes to working with Trauma and PTSD, as well as other conditions.
