Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) affects how we function in the world - at school, at work, and with others. OCD thoughts and behaviors are disturbing and unwanted. But OCD is treatable with modern therapy methods and you can find long-term relief. Reach out today and one of our OCD Therapists will help you.
OCD tends to attack what we value – our relationships, career, health, and even our self-worth.
Intrusive thoughts come with anxiety and stress and feel unsafe. We may think "What if I hit someone with my car and didn't realize it? or "What if I was exposed to a harmful chemical?" or "What if I lose control and do something awful?" These thoughts lead to compulsive behaviors - checking if we hit the car, washing our hands for ten minutes, finger tapping a certain number of times, or something else. However, the good news is you don’t have to play tug-of-war with your thoughts. You can “drop the rope” and get lasting relief.
OCD Therapy is for those who want to feel better and stop seeing so many perceived threats in their day to day living. It’s for those who want to feel free from their compulsions and the beliefs that drive them.

The best therapy for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is typically Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), specifically a form called Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP).
ERP works by exposing individuals to situations that trigger their obsessive thoughts while preventing them from engaging in compulsive behaviors. Over time, this helps reduce anxiety and the urge to perform rituals, breaking the OCD cycle.
In some cases, neurostimulation and neurofeedback are helpful. These are really powerful tools to help decrease the activation in the cingulate gyrus. This can increase the mental flexibility of folks with OCD and allow them to release or let go of their obsessions and compulsions more easily.
OCD does not go away if ignored. In fact, ignoring OCD can often lead to an increase in the intensity and frequency of obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors.
If left untreated, OCD can become more severe over time, causing significant distress and impairing daily functioning, relationships, and quality of life. Untreated OCD may also lead to increased anxiety, depression, or other mental health issues as individuals struggle to manage their symptoms without proper support or coping strategies.
Early intervention with therapy, such as ERP, can be highly effective in managing and reducing OCD symptoms.
While self-treatment for OCD can help manage some symptoms, it is not typically sufficient for addressing the condition fully.
Strategies like mindfulness, stress management, and self-help books based on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) principles, particularly Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), can provide some relief.
However, professional guidance from a therapist trained in treating OCD is usually essential for long-term success. Without proper treatment, self-managing OCD might not effectively break the cycle of obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors, and the disorder could worsen over time.
We’re accepting new clients and can start you off with a complimentary in-person or virtual consultation. It’s 30 minutes and is done with our intake person or one of our licensed therapists. This is your chance to share whatever you’re comfortable sharing, ask questions, and see which of our therapists is a good fit for you (we’ll help as well). You can trust that all of our therapists are highly trained and experienced when it comes to treating OCD.
